What is a Byard?

What is a Byard, and how the heck do you say it?

Byard (pronounced “By-yard”) is the last name of Aaron Byard, the maker responsible for hand making all of the knives and tools that come out of the workshop.

The makers mark (logo) is comprised of a “B” and “K” for Byard Knives, biomimicking the oak leaf to the left, hinting at the makers past as an ecologist. It was actually during his time studying the environment where his passion for knifemaking started. Being out in the wilderness the majority of the time he needed a tool he could rely on for a wide range of tasks. After searching he couldn’t find a knife that suited his needs both in function and character, so he set off on the life long journey of teaching himself the art of knifemaking.

Although we design and build tools to look great, function takes precedence throughout all stages of creation. Because let’s be honest, a good looking tool that doesn’t perform is not the tool you’ll reach for when in need. That’s why we can stand by our slogan of “Tools for the everyday.”

Only knives that meet the makers strict requirements for form, function and finish get etched with the markers mark so you can rest assured that any Byard Knives tool you add to your collection will be a faithful companion ready to join you on all your adventures.
